Incident at Airport Covid-19 Screening – Assault Charge Laid

Charlottetown Police Services responded to an incident at the Charlottetown Airport at 1:30 am Thursday morning.

A male and female whom were passengers  on an incoming flight refused to go through the Covid-19 screening center at the airport.   The male allegedly pushed a health worker aside, by-passed the screening area and exited the airport.   Police were able to intercept the pair and arrested them.

As a result, a 35 year old Alberta male has been charged with assault.  In addition to the criminal code charge, the male and the 41 year old female that accompanied him were each issued a $1050.00 fine in violation of the Public Health Act.

The accused was released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
