Surveillance video from a residence led to the arrest of a male attempting to steal from a vehicle.
At approximately 9:45 pm last night (Oct 8), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of someone “checking vehicles” on Fitzroy Street. The complainant had video surveillance that captured the male attempting to enter a parked vehicle. Police were able to get a clear image of the male and by 10:30 pm had located and arrested the suspect a short distance away.

The accused was held in custody overnight and will appear in Provincial Court today for a remand hearing.

At approximately 10:00 pm Saturday night, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint on Sydney Street of someone possibly selling drugs.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 27 year old Charlotttetown man. The accused has been charged with:
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act section 5(2)
The accused has been released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on routine patrol at 2:30 am Saturday morning, Police observed a vehicle strike a pedestrian that was crossing the road at the intersection of Kent St. and Prince St.. That vehicle did not stop and was pulled over a short distance away while another Officer tended to the injured pedestrian.
The driver, a 22 year old Charlottetown woman, displaying signs of impairment was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. She spent the night in jail and was released pending her appearance in Provincial Court.
The pedestrians was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
Charlottetown Police Services Patrol Officers with the assistance of the Street Crime Unit have arrested a 33 year old male in relation to the spike in property crime offences over the last few weeks.
At 1:30 am this morning, Police were called to the St Peters Road area in response to a male attempting to use a credit card believed to have been stolen. Police were able to locate the male a short distance away and he attempted to flee on a bicycle. A foot chase ensued and the suspect was caught and arrested. The male has been charged with 3 counts of theft under $5000, 3 counts of failing to comply with an Undertaking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. Other charges are pending.
The male was also wanted on an arrest warrant issued on August 29th.
The accused will appear in Provincial Court later today for a remand hearing.
Sept 27 – Thanks to public assistance, this vehicle has been recovered.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of a vehicle that occurred sometime overnight (Sept 25/26).
The vehicle is a Silver 4 door 2014 Toyota Tacoma, bearing PEI plate 058MG. (Similar to picture below)
It was stolen from a property located on Ash Drive.

In response to the spike in property crimes reported to the media last week, Charlottetown Police Services Patrol Officers with the assistance of the Street Crime Unit have made several arrests and laid numerous charges. The arrests are all unrelated to each other.
6 male (ages range 23 to 48) repeat Offenders have been arrested
a total of forty two (42) charges have been laid
these 6 Offenders have a combined criminal record of 262 convictions
one (1) offender was currently serving a weekend sentence from a previous conviction
one (1) offender was just released from jail on September 12th.
Three of the accused have been remanded in custody until all matters are dealt with. The other three are currently in custody and will appear in court tomorrow morning for a show cause hearing.

Charlottetown Police Services wish to warn the public of a new phone scam that was reported over the weekend.
The victim received a phone call from number 1-888-502-9060 and a male identified himself as an Agent with the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency). He told the victim that he was the primary suspect in a very major and serious criminal investigation and that the Charlottetown Police Services would be contacting him and advising that there is a warrant for his arrest. The agent further stated that the Charlottetown Police Service would go arrest him and place him in jail for 48 hours.
While on the phone with the “Agent”, the victim received a second call from 902-629-4054, the ‘Agent” told him to answer that call. That caller identified himself as an Officer with the Charlottetown Police Services and advised him that there was an arrest warrant for him. The Officer instructed him to follow the instructions of the CBSA Agent. The Agent then instructed the victim to proceed to Lawton’s and Shoppers Drug Mart where he purchased $500 worth of Google Play gift cards. He then told him to scratch the back of the cards and email to him the gift card numbers.
With this scam, the phone numbers displayed where the actual phone numbers of the CBSA and CPS.
The public is being reminded to be vigilant and not to fall victim to these scams. Law enforcement agencies never ask for payments in this manner.
Hang up and report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a female with a firearm inside the ATM area of the Bank of Montreal at the Charlottetown Mall.
Upon arrival, Police located the female suspect and arrested her. Upon searching the female, a plastic bb hand gun was located.
A 40 year old Charlottetown woman has been charged with:
Fraud under $5000
Possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes
Carrying a concealed weapon
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
The accused was released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court on November 4th.

Over the last few days Charlottetown Police Services has seen an increased volume of complaints reporting thefts from vehicles and thefts from sheds.
Some have involved daytime thefts from vehicles in public parking lots, while most are committed at nigh time under the cover of darkness.

Downtown
Brighton
Charlottetown Police will be stepping up patrols in these areas.
Residents can take some preventative measures such as:
Keep their vehicle doors, shed doors locked
Do not leave valuables such as purses, wallets and electronic devices in vehicles
Residents are also encouraged to immediately report suspicious activity to Police.
