Altercation Leads to Assault with Weapon Charges

At approximately 11:50 pm last night (Aug 3), Charlottetown Police Services were dispatched to a business on Euston Street in response to an altercation between three females.

Upon arrival Police located two females, one of which who was showing signs of being sprayed with “pepper spray”.  The investigation led Police to a third female who was involved in the altercation and also showing signs of being assaulted.

All three females reside in Charlottetown, are known to each other and have all been charged.  Injuries sustained were minor and did not require medical attention.

A 35 year old female has been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, a 40 year old female has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and breach of probation and a 24 year old female has been charged with obstruction of justice.

The females were released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 8:30 pm on Sunday evening (Aug 2), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of two suspicious males on Queen Street swinging a baseball bat.

Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle associated to the complaint and pulled it over.  Police located a baseball bat and two knives which resulted in charges being laid.

A 29 year old Clyde River male has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation and a 33 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose..

Both males have been released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 11:30 pm on Friday night (July 31), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Grafton Street.  Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle and performed a traffic stop.  Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed the male under arrest.  He was brought back to the Police Station and refused to provide breath samples.

A 44 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with refusal to provide a breath sample upon demand and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 5:30 am this morning (July 23), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a fire at a residence on Queen Street where a female was seen running away from the location.

A 24 year old Charlottetown female matching the description was located a short time later, arrested and subsequently charged with arson and breach of probation.

The accused remains in custody and will appear for a remand hearing later this afternoon.

The accused sustained minor injuries, was treated at the QEH and released into Police custody.  The residence sustained minor damage as a result of the fire, but not sufficient enough to have displaced any of the residents.

At approximately 1:30 pm yesterday afternoon (July 22), Charlottetown Police Services arrested a male that was subject to an arrest warrant for having failed to appear in Provincial Court earlier in the month.

During the process of arrest, Police located a bag that contained over 400  tablets stamped with ” ICE “. These tablets are also known as speed pills and contain methamphetamine.

The Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit are assisting with this drug investigation.

A 38 year old Springton PEI man has been charged with Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking which falls under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act .

The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Over the last few days, Charlottetown Police Services have arrested and charged 3 prolific offenders with multiple charges.

On July 21st, a 30 year old Charlottetown man was arrested in relation to a residential break and enter on Kent Street and charged with unlawfully in a dwelling house, theft under $5000 dollars and breach of probation (x2).  The accused has other unrelated pending matters before the court which includes charges of break and enter and breach of probation (x2).

On July 21st, a 40 year old Charlottetown man was arrested in relation to a residential break and enter on Kent Street and charged with unlawfully in a dwelling house, theft under $5000 dollars and breach of probation.  The accused has other unrelated pending matters before the court which includes charges of theft under $5000 dollars (x3) and breach of probation (x3).

On July 22nd, a 34 year old Charlottetown man was arrested in relation to a stolen $4000 dollar mountain bike and charged with possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and fail to comply with a release order.  The accused has other unrelated pending matters before the court which includes charges of theft under $5000 dollars (x2), trespass at night (x14) and  breach of probation (x2).

The three offenders have a total of 120 past criminal convictions on their criminal records.  All three males have been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are in the early stages of the investigation into the death of two people that were found deceased in their home overnight in the Sherwood area. The victims include a 47 year old woman and her 9 year old daughter.  The Major Crime Unit with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit are investigating the deaths and forensic autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow in Halifax.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to the public relating to these deaths.  Further details will be released at the appropriate times as the investigation unfolds.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of a MAC Cosmetic case (pictured below) from a vehicle that was parked at a residential property on the Harbourside Access Road. The theft occurred sometime Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of domestic violence yesterday evening.   As a result of the investigation, a 56 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with Assault.

The accused has since been released from custody with conditions to have no contact with the victim and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on routine patrol at 2:00 pm yesterday afternoon, Police observed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on the Malpeque Road.  The vehicle was pulled over and it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested. Breath samples provided were twice the legal limit.

A 54 year old Little York male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
