On Sunday at approximately 6:30 pm, Police responded to a complaint of a male on a small dirt bike going up and down Patterson Drive.  Charlottetown Police Services are requesting the public’s help in identifying this male.

At 5:00 pm on Saturday, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a disturbance on Weymouth Street involving two females arguing.

The Investigation has lead to a 54 year old Charlottetown woman being charged with Assault.  She has been released from custody with conditions to have no contact with the female victim and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Two separate incidents lead to Impaired Driving charges.

Charlottetown Police responded to a two vehicle collision on Friday at the intersection of Lower Malpeque Road and Capital Drive. While interacting with both drivers, Police noticed that one of them was displaying signs of being impaired by alcohol.  As a result, a 31 year old Charlottetown male was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police responded to a single vehicle collision this morning at 1:10 am on the Lower Malpeque Road.   Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  As a result, a 24 year old Charlottetown male was charged with impaired driving and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

No injuries were reported at either collision.

While on routine patrol on Eden Street at 12:00 pm on Friday, Charlottetown Police Services observed a male driver that was known to be prohibited due to previous impaired driving charges.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on Kirkwood Drive.  While interacting with the driver, Police determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was arrested.  An officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided.  Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.

A 46 year old Charlottetown man was released from custody with a 90 day driving prohibition order and the vehicle was impounded for 60 days.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of an erratic driver on Maypoint Road shortly after 6:30 pm yesterday.  The suspect vehicle was located a short time later.   The driver displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was arrested.  An officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided.  Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.  A 34 year old Winsloe man was released from custody with a 90 day driving prohibition order and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

Charlottetown Police are investigating a suspicious device that was located on the property of a Passmore Street residence just before noon today. The property which is under new ownership is being renovated and workers located a metal pipe with end caps and immediately called police. As the visual appearance of this device is consistent with how pipe-bomb’s are constructed the Explosive Removal Unit from Halifax is attending to deal with the device. Police have coordinated off the area and have evacuated residents neighboring the property.

A further update will be given when later in the day.

Charlottetown Police Services remind the public to be aware of the CRA phone call scam and to protect themselves against being victims of fraud. Over the last few weeks there has been an increase in reported cases.

The fraudster pretends to be with the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency), calls unwitting tax payers and tells them that they owe money from a past tax return.  The tax payer is told that they will incur additional fees, face jail time, be arrested by Police or be deported if they fail to pay.  In many cases, the phone number displayed is the same as local Police which makes the victim believe it’s a legitimate phone call.  The fraudster will then pressure the victim into making a payment which usually consists of a bitcoin transaction, wire transfer or prepaid gift cards. These scammers are very threatening and entice fear.

The CRA will never

• ask for information about your passport, health card, or driver’s license
• demand immediate payment by Interac e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or gift cards from retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, or others
• use aggressive language or threaten you with arrest or sending the police
• leave voicemails that are threatening or give personal or financial information

How to protect yourself:

• Simply hang up and if you feel the need to verify if the CRA was actually trying to reach you, then call the CRA directly to inquire why they were calling you. Never provide personal information on inbound calls.
