Weapons Complaint at the Charlottetown Airport – Investigation is Ongoing

At 5:35 am last Thursday morning (March 24), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male with a hand gun at the Charlottetown Airport.
Airport security reported that a male was inside the airport and had a hand gun in his back pocket and provided a detailed description of the suspect. Upon Police arrival, the suspect was outside the main arrival doors and was arrested without incident. Police located the hand gun which turned out to be a bb gun.
The suspect was brought to the QEH for a mental health assessment. The investigation is ongoing and charges will be laid upon his release from Hospital.
Charlottetown Police Services have charged two individuals with impaired driving over the weekend in separate incidents.
File: 2022375295 – At approximately 10:25 am Saturday morning (March 26), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a driver that may be impaired on Westridge Crescent. Officers were able to locate the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.
A 57 year old Charlottetown male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were almost 3 times the legal limit .
File: 2022378405 – While on routine patrol shortly after midnight on Sunday morning (March 27), police observed a vehicle driving without any lights on and pulled it over on Queen Street. The driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.
A 23 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were almost 3 times the legal limit ..
Both males will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 9:55 am Friday morning (March 18), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of robbery at a business location on St Peters Road.
Upon opening the business for the day, the employee located a lone male inside the building and had in his possession a small safe, two cash registers and was also holding a machete. The male fled on foot when confronted and headed east on Belmont Street.
The stolen items, some of the suspect clothing and the machete were located nearby and with the assistance of E-watch surveillance cameras the suspect was identified.
On Saturday night at approximately 11:20 pm, Charlottetown Police responded to a complaint of a male that was inside a shed at a residential property on Euston Street. Upon arrival, Police located the male suspect, whom was also the robbery suspect.
A 28 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, possession of a weapon while prohibited and breach of probation in relation to the St Peters Road robbery and charged with trespass at night, theft under $5000 dollars and breach of probation in relation to the Euston street shed complaint.
The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at 1:15pm Tuesday March 22.

On March 8, 2022 at 3:18 pm, Charlottetown Police responded to a complaint of a near miss collision that occurred at the intersection of the Arterial Highway and Brackley Point Road.
A small 4 door grey hatchback car (pictured below) cut off two other oncoming vehicles as it turned left onto Brackley Point Road. This vehicle did not stop and continued southbound.
Police are seeking public assistance in identifying the vehicle and/or vehicle driver at the time of the near miss collision.
The driver of the SUV that had to swerve to avoid a collision was not injured but the vehicle did sustain damage from hitting the snow bank.

At 5:10 pm yesterday afternoon (Mar 14th), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a tractor trailer driver that was possibly impaired and parked in a local business parking lot near the Charlottetown Mall.
The responding Officer located the vehicle and determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. The driver was taken back to the Police station and provided breath samples that were three times the legal limit.
A 28 year old Stoney Creek Ontario male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was also issued a 90 day driving prohibition order and the vehicle has been impounded for 30 days. The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on routine patrol at 2:15 am Saturday morning (Mar 12), Police observed a vehicle that was driving erratically and pulled it over on University Avenue.
The Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. The driver was taken back to the Police station to provide breath samples which were over twice the legal limit.
A 22 year old New Zealand PEI male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services wish to warn the public of a significant amount of scam phone calls occurring today.
Some commonalities are:
Call display shows a local 902 phone number
Scams involve a call from CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) and the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) warning that there is an arrest warrant and you must send money
Calls claiming that a family member was in a car accident and need money
The forms of scams vary and evolve over time. One consistent theme is that they use fear tactics and threats to pressure the victim into providing personal/banking information and/or pressure them into sending payments that usually consist of a bitcoin transaction, wire transfer or prepaid gift cards.
Don’t be a victim:
Simply hang up and if you feel the need to verify if the organization was actually trying to reach you, then call that organization directly to inquire why they were calling you. Never provide personal information on inbound calls.
What to do after the call:
If you’ve provided personal information such as your SIN and/or sent any money if form of bitcoin, pre-paid gift cards – Report the fraud to your local Police
If you did not disclose any personal information or sent money – Report the fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre via their website or by calling 1888-495-8501.

At approximately 6:15 pm yesterday afternoon (Feb 28), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on St Peters Road. Police located the vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver, a 58 year old Tracadie Cross male refused to provide breath samples and was subsequently charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
