Man Charged Following Disturbance at the Sherwood Business Centre

At 12;20 pm yesterday afternoon (Jan 24), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of a male that had broken several windows at the Sherwood Business Centre.

Upon arrival Police learned that a male had attended the business centre and was agitated and causing a disturbance.  The male was asked to leave the premise and did so but returned 20 minutes later and began to break windows at random.

The male was located in the area and arrested without incident.

A 29 year old Truro male has been charged with mischief over $5000 dollars and failing to comply with a release order.   He was transported to the QEH for a mental health assessment.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police responded to an alarm at the Oak Tree Liquor Store this morning at 4:25 am.   A store window was smashed and a quantity of liquor had been stolen.  The male was captured on video surveillance and a suspect was identified.

At 9:30 am, Police located the suspect and arrested him without incident.   A 36 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with one count of Break and Enter.   The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court on Thursday.

At 4:00 am Monday morning, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of two suspicious males checking cars on Greenfield Avenue.    Officers followed the fresh footwear prints in the snow and located a male on York Lane.   The male, a prolific offender well known to Police was arrested.   As a result of the investigation a 31 year old Charlottetown male was charged with trespass at night and breach of probation.

The accused was released on conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 6:20 pm Saturday evening  (Jan 21), while on routine patrol, an Officer witnessed a three vehicle collision at the intersection of University and Allen Streets, no injuries reported. While interacting with one of the drivers, the Officer determined that she was impaired by alcohol.   She was subsequently arrested and provided breath sample that were over twice the legal limit.

A 40 year old Charlottetown  female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services encourage the public to report any instances of impaired driving…Call 911.

UPDATE Jan 13, 2023 @ 8:45 am – The vehicle has been located.  A male has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

Charlottetown Police Services is investigating the theft of a vehicle from the QEH parking lot sometime between 8:00 and 9:30am on Monday (January 9th).

The vehicle is a dark blue 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback, it was bearing PEI plate 172WK at the time of the theft.   The picture below is similar to the one stolen – please note that the one stolen had plain black winter rims on it.

It was last seen heading towards Marshfield on St Peters Road (Route 2).

Police would like to speak with the driver of a pick up truck that was witness to this collision in an effort to obtain further details about the accident.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a collision between a pick up truck and a pedestrian last evening.  The collision occurred at 7:26 pm last evening (Jan 9th) at the crosswalk on Brackley Point Road and Ellis Road (adjacent to Buns and Things Bakery).  The pedestrian was on the East side of Brackley Pt Rd waiting to cross.   The witness vehicle was heading North on Brackley Point Rd and stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross.  As the pedestrian was crossing, a vehicle that was south on Brackley Pt Rd did not stop and struck the pedestrian.  The driver of that vehicle did remain on scene and tended to the pedestrian whom was  transported to the QEH by IEMS with what is believed to be minor injuries.

The witness vehicle turned into the Buns and Things Bakery for a few minutes then left west on Ellis Road.  The vehicle is thought to be a Silverado Special Ops pick up truck.  The driver of this vehicle is asked to call CPS at 902-629-4172.

Charlottetown Police Services is warning of a scam relating to heating assistance rebates.

We have received some reports of people receiving text messages from a number claiming to be associated to collecting heating assistance rebate.   The actual text message from the scammer is shown below.

Do not reply or click on any links if present, simply delete the message and block the number.    Please share this scam information with friends and family to further reduce the number of potential victims.

If you are seeking assistance with any type of government programs, go to the Provincial website and follow that process.  The government will not solicit program participation via text messages.

Charlottetown Police Services wish to inform the public of a Canada Post email scam that has re-surfaced.

The scam involves receiving an email that appears to be from Canada Post.  The email does appear legitimate and informs you that they attempted to deliver a package but you were not home and they require additional fees to complete the delivery.  The link on the email will direct you to another site with payment options.  In the case currently being investigated, the only option that worked was the e-transfer option,  to which the victim provided secure banking information.   Once this information was provided to the scammers, they were able to access the victims bank account and proceeded to send themselves and e-transfer of 2850.00.  The victim also received a scam text message with a verification code after the the initial email and once the secure information had been shared.  This text message prompted the victim to look into this further and suspected a possible scam and reported it to Police.

Don’t be a victim:

• Canada Post states on its website that they will not send unsolicited emails
• If they cannot delivery a package, they will leave a notice indicating this at your home
• Delete these type email scams, or if you wish to look into yourself, either contact Canada Post directly or conduct a google search relating to the potential scam and often times there will information relating to that type of scam

What to do if you feel you’ve been a victim of a scam:

• If you’ve provided personal information such as your SIN, banking/credit card and/or sent any money in the form of bitcoin, pre-paid gift cards – Report the fraud to your local Police
• If you did not disclose any personal information or sent money – Report the fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre via their website or by calling 1888-495-8501.

Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit, with the assistance from the Rapid Tactical Deployment Unit and Patrol Officers conducted a targeted traffic stop, then simultaneously executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence on Dawson Court last night just before midnight.

The search resulted in the seizure of:

• 19.4 grams of crystal meth
• 65 grams of cocaine
• 56.2 grams of hash
• 99 grams of dried cannabis
• 11 grams of mushrooms
• 87 various pills (benzodiazepine, dilaudid, ecstasy, biphentin)
• Street value of drugs is approximately $20,000.00 dollars
• $2130.00 cash seized
• a baton and several knives
• other drug paraphernalia

A 37 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with CDSA 5(2) –  Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, driving while prohibited, possession of a weapon while prohibited and breach of probation.  The investigation is ongoing and may result with further charges being laid.

A 51 year old Charlottetown woman has been charged with CDSA 5(2) –  Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The male was remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court next Wednesday, the female has been released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
