Impaired Driver Charged

File: 20231812407 – At approximately 2:30 am Sunday morning,  while on routine patrol, an Officer came upon a vehicle that was stationary and partially  obstructing traffic flow on Water Street.  The Officer pulled in behind the vehicle and noticed the driver was sleeping behind the wheel.   The driver was woken up and it was determined that he was impaired by alcohol and subsequently arrested and brought to the Police Station for breath samples.

A 35 year old Charlottetown male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over the legal limit.

The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public  to  plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The Police Service wishes to thank concerned citizens for reporting possible impaired drivers.   The public is encouraged to report instances of suspected impaired driving by calling 911.

At approximately 2:00 am Sunday morning (Dec 3), Charlottetown Police Services responded to vehicle fire on the Norwood Road.

Upon arrival, Police observed an SUV to be mostly engulfed in flames and attempts to put it out with a fire extinguisher had no effect.   The Charlottetown Fire Department arrived shortly after and were able to extinguish the fire.  The vehicle was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

Through the course of the investigation, Police identified a male suspect and related vehicle which was captured on nearby E-Watch video surveillance and provided Officers with a digital image of the suspect vehicle.  A short time later, the suspect vehicle was located driving on Haviland Street.   The vehicle was pulled over and the male driver was arrested without incident.

During the arrest, Officers determined that the male was impaired by alcohol and brought back to the Police Station for breath tests.  Due to medical reasons, a breath test was not performed and the male was taken to the QEH where a blood sample was collected and will be submitted for toxicology analysis to determine the level of impairment.

A 70 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with Arson and the impaired operation of a motor vehicle charge is dependent on the toxicology results.

The accused has been released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 8:10 pm last night (Nov 27), Charlottetown Police responded to a minor collision between two vehicles with no injuries on Kensington Road.  One of the drivers displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 23 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over the legal limit.

The accused was released and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services is seeking public assistance and witnesses to a collision at the intersection of Belvedere and University Avenue.

At 6:14pm on November 17th, a cyclist traveling north on University Ave on the sidewalk, proceeded to cross Belvedere Ave. and was struck by a vehicle that was turning right from Belvedere Ave onto University Ave.  The cyclist sustained minor injuries.

A burgundy/red sedan, that appears to be a Mazda, is captured on video at the intersection of Queen St and Belvedere Avenue in the left turning lane. It proceeds to University Avenue, turns right then turns right again into the Superstore/Burger King parking lot, as depicted on the map below.

Charlottetown Police Services is investigating two separate cases of stolen trailers.

At 2:30 am on Monday morning (Nov 20), two masked suspects driving what is believed to be a silver/grey Nissan Frontier with roof rack, attended Centennial Auto Sport at 251 Sherwood Road and stole a 2022 enclosed Lightning 5×12 trailer.

At 2:10 am on Tuesday morning (Nov 21), similar suspects and vehicle attended Canadian Tire at 20 Babineau Avenue and stole a True North 6×10 utility trailer, similar to the one pictured below.
