Refusal of Breath Demand – Charge Laid

At approximately 7:50 pm Friday evening (Mar 1), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Rochford Street. Police located and pulled the vehicle over on Water Street. Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed the male under arrest. He was brought back to the Police Station and refused to provide breath samples.
A 73 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public to plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.
The Police Service wishes to thank concerned citizens for reporting possible impaired drivers. The public is encouraged to report instances of suspected impaired driving by calling 911.

At 11:00pm last night (Feb 29), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on North River Road. Police located the vehicle on Prince Charles Drives and conducted a traffic stop. The driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested and brought to the Police Station for breath samples.
A 72 year old Charlottetown male was charge with driving while impaired after providing breath samples that were over the legal limit.
The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 10:45 am on Saturday morning (Feb 17), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male threatening a male and female with a knife.
Police attended the area of Stan MacPherson Way and spoke with the complainants. It was learned that he and his girlfriend were walking their dogs when they were approached by a male, unknown to them, who was yelling threats towards them and pulled a knife out in a threatening manner. The couple backed away and called Police, at which time the male left the area. The incident was captured on the Charlottetown Police E-Watch video surveillance system.
Police were able to identify the suspect and did locate him a short time later at the intersection of Richmond and Queen Street. The suspect was arrested without incident and a knife was seized.
A 35 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. The accused appeared in Provincial Court Tuesday and has been remanded in custody.

At 2:00am Saturday morning (Feb 17), while on routine patrol, a Charlottetown Police Officer was flagged down on Kent Street by several males that appeared in distress. The males told Police that they were in an altercation with other males, when one of them brandished a black hand gun and threatened them. The Officer was told that the suspect males were inside a vehicle in the Fitzroy Parkade.
The Officer was able to locate the vehicle as it attempted to exit the parkade. Four males inside the vehicle were detained and Police located a black pellet hand gun inside the vehicle.
A 21 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and pointing a firearm.
The male was released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
Following a 4 weeklong drug investigation, Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit arrested and charged two females yesterday afternoon.
The two women were arrested by the Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit Officers on Euston Street after observing the pair conduct a drug transaction. A short time later, the Street Crime Unit executed a CDSA search warrant at one of the females place of residence on Euston Street. Police seized a total of 3056 methamphetamine tablets and $4,300 cash.
Tanya Burke and Ashley Saunders, both from Charlottetown have been charged with CDSA 5(2) possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.
Both accused’s have been released from custody on conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Acting on drug information received, the Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit arrested a male yesterday afternoon on Euston Street.
Officers seized a small quantity of orange fentanyl, similar to the type Health PEI warned the public about in a media release yesterday.
A 37 year old Charlottetown male was charged with CDSA 4(1) Possession of a schedule I drug (fentanyl) and breach of probation.
The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit has charged a 49 year old Charlottetown male with drug offences following a 6 week long investigation.
Yesterday morning (Feb 1), the Street Crime Unit arrested the male on Capital Drive and seized a quantity of crack cocaine. The same male had been charged with drug offences by the Street Crime Unit in October of last year. He had been released at that time and was awaiting his next court date.
He now faces an additional charge of CDSA 5(2) Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused was remanded in custody this morning and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At approximately 6:00 am this morning (Jan 31), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male checking cars on Newland Crescent.
Several Police Units responded and located the male suspect inside a vehicle. The male was arrested and a search incidental to arrest revealed other items that were stolen from other vehicles.
A 41 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.
The accused has been released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
