At approximately 9:30 pm last night (April 10), while on routine patrol, Police observed a vehicle speeding and driving erratically.  Officers initiated a traffic stop on Weymouth Street and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed the female under arrest.  She was brought back to the Police Station and refused to provide breath samples.

A 30 year old Stratford  female has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

File 2024445232: At 11:45 pm Friday night (Apr 5), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a possible impaired driver on Capital Drive.  Police located the vehicle on Marianne Drive in Cornwall.  While interacting with the driver, the Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. He was brought back to the Police Station and refused to provide breath samples.

A 23 year old Kingston PEI male has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

File 2024445829: At 2:15 am Saturday morning (Apr 6), while on routine patrol, Police observed a vehicle driving erratically and pulled it over on Chestnut Street.  The driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 22  year old Charlottetown female was subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.

The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating a theft of copper ground wire.    Sometime between March 14 and April 4th, someone attended the Maritime Electric Substation on the UPEI campus at 550 University Avenue and cut several strands of copper ground wire from the substation.   These types of thefts not only create additional costs to the business, they create a very hazardous environment to the Maritime Electric employees and public and could potentially cause serious injury or death.

At 10:50 pm last night (Apr 4), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a possible impaired driver on University Avenue.  Police located the vehicle and pulled it over on Pond Street.  While interacting with the driver, the Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 24  year old Hazelbrook male was subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were above twice the legal limit.  The accused has been previously convicted for impaired driving in 2019 and 2020.  The driver is also facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act and the vehicle has been impounded for 30 days.

The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of a vehicle that was stolen from a business parking lot on Belvedere Avenue Sunday (March 24) afternoon.

With assistance from the Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit, the vehicle was located and three males were arrested without incident on Monday March 25 at 1:15pm.  Two males were released without charges, however the third male and driver, a 24 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with multiple offences.

In relation to the vehicle theft, the male has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.

At approximately 3:45 pm Sunday afternoon, the vehicle pumped gas at a gas station in Stratford and drove off without paying.  The accused is being charged with theft under $5000 dollars and breach of probation.

At approximately 9:10 pm Sunday night, Summerside Police Services having been alerted to the stolen vehicle out of Charlottetown spotted it on Granville Street.  Officers attempted to pull it over but it fled and was not pursued due to public safety concerns.   The accused is being charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of probation in this instance.

About an hour and a half later in Charlottetown, Police located the vehicle on Kent Street and attempted to pull it over.  Again, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and police discontinued for public safety reasons.   In this case, the accused is being charged with flight from police,  dangerous  operation of a motor vehicle and breach of probation.

The accused appeared in court Monday afternoon and has been remanded in custody. His next Charlottetown court appearance is on April 5.

Charlottetown Police Services have charged three drivers with driving offences over the last 36 hours.

File: 2024395697 – At approximately 10:25 pm Tuesday night (March 26), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint from an off duty Summerside Police Officer reporting a possible impaired driver on St Peters Road.  The off duty Officer continued to follow the vehicle as it crossed the Hillsborough Bridge and parked in a business parking lot on the Stratford Road.  Charlottetown Police Officers caught up to the vehicle in the parking lot and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol, but was not above the legal limit, however, he was prohibited from driving a vehicle under the criminal code.

A 48  year old Kensington male was charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and his vehicle has been impounded for 6 months.

File: 2024400671 – At approximately 9:20 pm last  night (March 27),  Officers were alerted via the Charlottetown Police License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, that a vehicle that had been previously reported as driving erratically and suspect of impairment, was on St Peters Road heading into the City.  An Officer that was in the area was able to locate the vehicle and pulled it over on Northridge Parkway.    The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 43 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

File: 2024401345 – At approximately 12:20 am this morning (March 28),  Police responded to an impaired driver complaint on Kent Street.   The vehicle was located on Dresden Court and the responding Officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 46 year old Charlottetown female was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after providing breath samples that were over twice the legal limit.

All charged individuals will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 9:45pm Friday night (Mar 22), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a possible impaired driver on Sherwood Road.  Police located the vehicle near the intersection of Sherwood Road and Lower Malpeque Road.  While interacting with the driver, the Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 46  year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.

The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Last week, while executing a CDSA search warrant at an apartment building on Doncaster Avenue, the Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit noticed another unrelated apartment that appeared to have been broken into.   Officers located a male and female inside and arrested both for break and enter.   The investigation led to the discovery of a quantity of Fentanyl and drug paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. The female was released pending further investigation.

A 53 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with break and enter, CDSA 5(2) possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation.  He appeared in Provincial Court on Friday and was remanded in custody.

At 11:10 pm Tuesday night (Mar 19), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a Break and Enter in progress at a residential apartment  on Water Street.

Police learned that the female victim was in bed and heard the balcony door open and saw  an unknown male in her kitchen.  The suspect left the apartment and stole a winter jacket on his way out.  The victim was not approached by the suspect and was able to provide a good physical and clothing description of the male.

A few hours later at 1:05 am Wednesday morning (Mar 20), Police responded to a complaint of a male on a deck at a residence on Sydney Street.   In this case, the suspect had left the scene without entering the residence, but the victim did have video surveillance of the male.  Police were able to identify the male, and based on clothing and physical description confirmed that this was the same male as the previous B&E investigation.

At 1:20 am, other Police units located and arrested the male suspect on Prince Street.   The male was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet (ankle bracelet) and as such, Probation Services were contacted after the fact and were able to confirm that the male had been at the two locations subject to these investigations.

A 31 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with break and enter, trespass at night, two (2) counts of breach of probation and two (2) counts of failing to comply with a court imposed release order.  The accused had over twenty five other unrelated pending charges before the courts at the time of his arrest.   The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
