Four Impaired Drivers Charged Over the Weekend

Charlottetown Police Services responded to several possible impaired driving complaints over the weekend, four of which resulted in charges.

At 1:30 am Saturday morning, Police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Kent Street.  The investigation led to the arrest of a 37 year old Stratford female. She was brought back to the Police Station and subsequently charged with impaired driving after providing breath samples that were above the legal limit.

At 2:10 am Saturday morning, while on routine patrol, Officers observed a vehicle driving erratically on Fitzroy Street.  The vehicle was pulled over on Great George Street and Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.  A 20 year old Peakes PEI female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after proving breath samples that were above the legal limit.

At 3:30 am Saturday morning, Officers responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Kensington Road.  Officers located the suspect vehicle and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and arrested him.  A 39 year old  Margate PEI male has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand.

At 2:30 am Sunday morning, Police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Maypoint Road.  Officers located the vehicle and pulled it over on the Upton Road. The driver of the vehicle showed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested. A 60 year old Charlottetown male was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle  after providing breath samples that were over the legal limit.

All individuals charged individual have been released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public  to  plan ahead and never get behind the wheel when their ability to drive is impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The Police Service wishes to thank concerned citizens for reporting possible impaired drivers.   The public is encouraged to report instances of suspected impaired driving by calling 911.

Over the last week Charlottetown Police Services has seen an increased volume of complaints reporting thefts from vehicles.  The majority of the cases have occurred in the East Royalty and Sherwood communities.  A few others have occurred in Browns Court, along Longworth Avenue, Grafton Street and Kensington Road.

Charlottetown Police will be stepping up patrols in these areas.

Residents can take some effective and simple preventative measures such as:

1. Do not leave valuables such as purses, wallets and electronic devices in vehicles
2. Always keep your doors locked

Residents are also encouraged to immediately report suspicious activity to Police.

At approximately 4:30 pm on Friday (Sept 20), Charlottetown Police Services along with IEMS responded to a two vehicle collision on Garfield Street.

A motorcycle that was traveling east on Garfield Street and collided with the rear passenger side of a dump truck that was turning left from Garfield Street onto Strawberry Lane.  The motorcycle driver, a 42 year old male was pronounced deceased on scene, the driver of the truck was uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing.  The area was temporarily blocked to traffic to allow the Charlottetown Police collision re-constructionist conduct it’s investigation.   Police and other first responders offer their condolences to the families affected during this difficult time.

Charlottetown Police Services Major Crime Unit in collaboration with Summerside Police Service Major Crime Unit have laid fourteen (14) charges against Darrel Edison Worth, a 23 year old Charlottetown male.

On March 2, 2024, Summerside Police contacted Charlottetown Police to request a wellbeing check on three (3) female youths from Summerside, due to concerns that the girls might be involved with an older male in Charlottetown. The girls were located, and officers found that the female youths had encountered a male known only as “Eric” who had been sexually exploited them.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Police successfully identified the suspect using investigative technology techniques. Yesterday morning, Charlottetown Police Services Major Crime Unit, with assistance from Charlottetown Police General Patrol Unit arrested the male. Charlottetown Police Services Major Crime Unit with the assistance of Charlottetown Police Digital Forensics Unit, Charlottetown Police Forensics Identification Unit and Charlottetown Police General Patrol Unit executed a search warrant at the suspects residence seizing electronic devices.

The accused has been charged with the following offences:

ccc 151 – Sexual Interference  x2

ccc 152 – Invitation to Sexual Touching  x2

ccc 163.1(3) – Transmits Child Pornography  x2

ccc 171.1(1)(b) – Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Child  x2

ccc 172.2(a)(b) – Making an Agreement or an Arrangement Sexual Assault  x2

ccc 172.1(1)(b) – Luring a Child  x2

The accused appeared in Charlottetown Provincial Court yesterday afternoon and has been remanded in custody.

Police believe there may be other victims.  Darrel Edison Worth predominantly used TikTok to contact his victims online, using the display name “Eddie Worth” and the username “@eshaw30.” In conversations with his victims, he went by the name “Eric.” This approach allowed him to engage with his victims under a deceptive identity.

On Thursday Aug 29, 2024 at approximately 11:00pm, the Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit arrested a male following an investigation into the illicit drug trade of selling fentanyl in Charlottetown.

Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit assisted by Patrol Officers and the Tactical Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence on Ferndale Drive in Charlottetown.

Officers seized 310 grams of fentanyl, 180 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 90 grams of cocaine two cell phones and approximately $2200 dollars cash.  Street value of the drugs seized is approximately $184,000 thousand dollars.

18  year old male, Raiyaaz Rahim AZIZ,  from British Columbia has been charged with three counts of CDSA 5(2) –  Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (Fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine & Cocaine).

The accused has been remanded in custody and will appear in Province Court today.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a grandparent scam Tuesday afternoon (Aug 27).

The complainant reported that his grandmother had been contacted by telephone by a person claiming to be a bail bondsman and that her grandson had been in a car accident involving a pregnant woman and that she had to provide money to get her grandson out of jail.  The scammers gave instructions to go to the bank and withdraw $5000 dollars, return home and that someone would attend her residence to pick the money up.

We credit the complainant with calling Police prior to providing money to the scammers. Charlottetown Police Major Crime, Street Crime and Patrol Units assembled surveillance and arrest teams in the general area of the elderly woman’s residence.  Shortly after 3:30 pm, a male attended the residence to collect the money and was arrested without incident.

The investigation soon involved Summerside Police Services Major Crime Unit as they were investigating similar occurrences in their City on Monday.  In collaboration with Summerside Police, the investigation gleaned that a female was also involved and that they had been traveling in a rental vehicle from New Brunswick.

Late yesterday afternoon, Summerside and Charlottetown Police arrested the female accomplice at a motel in Borden-Carleton.  A search warrant was executed inside the motel room where five cells phones, several computer devices and cash were seized as part of the investigation.

The investigation is in the early stages and Police have learned that the duo is under investigation for similar occurrences in Miramichi, Bathurst, Campbelltown and Caraquet New Brunswick.

The names and photographs of the accused’s are being released in the hopes other victims and Police in other jurisdictions may be able to link them to other fraud cases throughout the Atlantic Region.

• 380(1)(b) – Fraud under $5000 (Charlottetown occurrence)
• 380(1)(a) – Fraud over $5000 (Charlottetown occurrence)

In relation to the Summerside Police Service investigations, it’s anticipated that charges will be laid in Summerside Provincial Court later this afternoon.

Both individuals have appeared in Charlottetown Provincial Court and have been remanded until tomorrow for a Show Cause hearing.

On August 26th, Charlottetown Police Services received a complaint from an individual who said that he was driving by a parked vehicle on Harley Street, the male driver of that vehicle smiled at him and appeared to have displayed a suspected firearm.

Through the course of the investigation, Police were able to identify the vehicle and the male driver.  At approximately 12:30 pm yesterday afternoon (Aug 27), a plain clothes member of the Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit observed the male’s vehicle in a business parking lot on University Avenue.  Patrol Officers attended the business and located the male suspect inside and arrested him without incident.  An silver replica hand gun (bb gun) was located inside the vehicle.

A 55 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. He was release on conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services arrested the same male that caused significant damage by smashing vehicle and structure windows this past Saturday.

At approximately 7:40 pm Wednesday evening (Aug 14) Police responded to a complaint of a shirtless male on Victoria Row causing a disturbance.  Police learned that the male had walked down Queen Street, kicked a male that was panhandling, proceeded to Victoria Row, walked over to two females seated at an outdoor establishment table and poured their drinks onto them, and continued to cause a disturbance in the area until Police arrived.

Police quickly located the male and arrested him. The same male had been arrested Saturday morning following a spree of smashing windows.  He had been remanded in custody for a show cause hearing and was released with conditions on Tuesday August 13th.

In relation to this most recent offence, 34 year old Aaron Campbell from Dunstaffnage has been charged with mischief under $5000, Assault (2 counts), causing a disturbance and fail to comply with a release order.   The accused appeared in Provincial Court yesterday and has been remanded in custody with his next court appearance scheduled on August 19th at 1:15pm.
