Drug Charges Laid

December 23, 2018, as part of an ongoing investigation, members of the CPS “Street Crime Unit” and the uniformed patrol division executed a CDSA Search Warrant at a Charlottetown area residence.

As the result of the search of the suspect residence, police seized a substantial quantity of methamphetamine pills, cash and several weapons.A male and a female who reside in the search location were arrested and were both charged for Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking contrary to s. 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused will appear in court to answer to the charges on a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating an incident which occurred on Kensington Road during the early morning hours of December 23, 2018.

The incident involved a person being struck by a motor vehicle and receiving serious injuries.Criminal charges have been laid against the driver of the vehicle.The driver of the vehicle has been released from custody and will appear in court on January 31st, 2019.The investigation is ongoing.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of a white 2014 Dodge RAM pick up truck which was taken from a Charlottetown residence sometime between Monday Dec 17th at 11:00am and Tuesday Dec 18th 8:00pm.

At the time of the theft, the vehicle was bearing PEI license plate HPJ. Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit has laid charges in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at the Capital Convenience and Smoke Shop on November 28th 2018.

The armed robbery prompted Police to issue a media release with video asking the public for assistance in identifying the male suspect.

A 23 year old Emyvale man has been charged with one count of armed robbery contrary to section 343(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada and one count of wearing a mask while committing an offence contrary to section 353(2).

The accused has been released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services, in partnership with PEI Highway Safety Officers will be increasing the frequency of Road Safety Check Points during the Holiday Season.

Last night (Thursday Dec 6, 2018), between 8pm and midnight, 3 separate checkpoints were conducted. As a result of these checkpoints:

• 17 Highway Traffic Act charges were laid
• 4 Highway Traffic Act warning were given
• 1 vehicle was towed for outstanding Highway Traffic Act offences
• 1 charge under the Cannabis Act was laid (possession while having care and control of a motor vehicle)

Prior to these checkpoints, Charlottetown Police responded to two separate Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Collisions.

The first MVC occurred at 4:50pm when two vehicles collided on the Arterial Highway. One of the vehicles did not remain on scene and fled the area before Police arrival. The hit and run vehicle was located a short time later and the driver was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The 76 year old Charlottetown man will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

The second MVC occurred at 6:40pm on Exhibition Drive. Two vehicles collided with one vehicle again failing to remain at the scene of the accident. The hit and run vehicle was located a short time later and the driver was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. In this case, a 28 year old Charlottetown man was charged and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Police are reminding the public to plan ahead, designate a sober driver and never drive while impaired.

A vehicle that was reported stolen from Summerside on December 2nd has been recovered by Charlottetown Police Services.

Police located the vehicle travelling northbound on University Avenue late Wednesday afternoon and a traffic stop was performed. The vehicle was towed from the scene and will be returned to Summerside Police Services, their investigation is ongoing.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of one counterfeit $20.00 dollar US bill being used for cab fare over the weekend.

This is the first such reported case in Charlottetown but there may be more bills in circulation and businesses are asked to take precautions and report any suspected cases of counterfeit cash. The same $20 dollar counterfeit bill has been reported in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia over the last few months.Some obvious signs of counterfeit to look for on these bills are:

• Serial number is JB44CYBEHNP
• The second last digit of the serial number “N” is actually printed backwards
• The partial serial number CYBEHNP is printed on the back of the bill and there should be none at all on the back
• The print below the image of President Jackson is “CRUGER” but should be “JACKSON”
• The print below the White House image on the back of the bill reads “DONETSK CITY” but should read “THE WHITE HOUSE”
