Impaired Driving – Charges Laid

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of an impaired driver on University Avenue at 11:05pm late last night (Feb 13).

The vehicle was located 20 minutes later on Brackley Point Road.  The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused, a 32 year old Charlottetown man will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver travelling on Riverside Drive at 1:15am this morning.

The vehicle was located at the intersection of the Arterial Highway and St-Peters Road.  Police conducted a traffic stop and determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.  The driver was arrested and subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

A 19 year old Harrington man will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Kirkwood Drive and Queen Street at 7:20pm Wednesday evening.

The collision occurred when a vehicle approaching the intersection failed to stop and rear ended the vehicle ahead of it, which in turn caused that vehicle to rear end another vehicle that was stopped in front of it.  All three vehicles sustained damage, two vehicles were towed from the scene.  There were no reported injuries.

Police determined that the driver of the 3rd vehicle causing the collision was displaying signs of impairment by  alcohol and was arrested.   A 55 year old Charlottetown man was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are actively investigating a Homicide that occurred overnight.  At 1:13 am, Police received a call of a fight in progress on Spring St near Churchill Ave.  Upon arrival the victim, a 24 year old Kingston man,  was located with serious injuries and immediately transported to QEH by Island EMS, he later died in hospital.  At 2:15 am, the Accused, a 20 year old Charlottetown Man, was later located on Lower Malpeque Road by Police and arrested after a brief struggle.  The two men were believed to be known to each other, this was not a random assault and the public is not at risk. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the violent encounter.  Police are not looking for any further suspects at this time.   The Charlottetown Police Services Major Crime Unit is investigating the incident and charges are expected to be laid later today.

While on routine patrol at 2:40am Saturday morning, Police observed an erratic driver on MacRae Drive.  The vehicle was pulled over and the Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol.

A 20 year old Charlottetown man was subsequently arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating a Break and Enter that occurred at Budget Tire Sales located at 490 Mount Edward Road.

On January 21 2019 at 06:20am, a lone suspect drove to Budget Tire and broke into the business.  The suspect was on the property for approximately 15 minutes, then left heading south on Mount Edward Road.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of metal roofing material from a residence on Richmond Street.

The theft occurred sometime between the hours of 5:00pm Friday (Jan 25/2019) and 8:00am Saturday (Jan 26/2019). The metal roofing material is flat black in colour and sheets are 9 feet long by 3 feet wide. A significant quantity was stolen and would have required possible 2 or more people to load the material and a vehicle capable of transporting the heavy/bulky sheets away.
