Several Complaints of Impaired Driving – Three Charges Laid

Charlottetown Police Services responded to several complaints of possible impaired drivers over the weekend, two of which have led to criminal code charges.

On Saturday Oct 19th at approximately 5:40 pm, Police were called to Euston Street where a vehicle had backed into another vehicle and had left the scene.  Police quickly located the driver of that vehicle a short distance away and determined that he was impaired and was subsequently arrested.  A 34 year old Roseville man has been charged with refusing to providing a breath sample.

On Saturday Oct 19th at approximately 7:50 pm, Police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Summer Street.  Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  The driver displayed signs of impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 63 year old Charlottetown female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

On Sunday morning at 2:40 am, Police observed a vehicle driving erratically and pulled it over.  The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested. A 19 year old Murray Harbour man was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The three accused’s will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of a vehicle that occurred at approximately 2:30 pm Friday afternoon (Oct 18).

The vehicle is a brown 2015 Subaru Forester, bearing PEI plate 228QA. It was stolen from a public parking lot located at 92 Capital Drive.

The vehicle was last seen driving east on Route 2 near Dunstaffnage a short time later.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating a collision that occurred between a pick up truck and a pedestrian that occurred near 70 Grafton Street on Friday (Oct 18) at 7:15 pm.

The vehicle described as a white GMC pick up truck, struck a 65 year old male that was crossing the street.  The driver of the truck, described as a white male, approximately 30 years of age, checked on the victim after the collision but department minutes later without providing any contact information.

The injured male was transported by EMS to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and later transferred to Halifax with serious injuries.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a disturbance on Longworth Ave at 1:00am.

A female youth was located and arrested at the residence.  The investigation has led to charges of failing to comply to an Undertaking and breaching a probation order.

The youth was released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are warning the public of a phone scam received over the weekend.

A call was received from a 613 area code, the caller identified himself as David and was calling from Service Canada.  He advised that the victims accounts were being frozen as they had been compromised and that the victim should withdraw all money and send to him via bitcoin deposit.  The scammer also provided a gmail account.

The public is asked to be vigilant when receiving calls of this nature.  Payment requests via bitcoin should always raise red flags.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating a hit and run collision that occurred in the Maypoint Round About on Tuesday October 1st at approximately 2:20 pm.

The collision involved the vehicle depicted below.  The tractor trailer lightly rear ended an SUV and continued driving east on Capital Drive towards the Lower Malpeque/North River Road intersection. There was minor damage to the SUV and no injuries.

Surveillance video from a residence led to the arrest of a male attempting to steal from a vehicle.

At approximately 9:45 pm last night (Oct 8), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of someone “checking vehicles” on Fitzroy Street.  The complainant had video surveillance that captured the male attempting to enter a parked vehicle.  Police were able to get a clear image of the male and by 10:30 pm had located and arrested the suspect a short distance away.

A 23 Charlottetown man has been charged with:

  • Trespass at Night
  • Fail to comply with an Undertaking

The accused was held in custody overnight and will appear in Provincial Court today for a remand hearing.

At approximately 10:00 pm Saturday night, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint on Sydney Street of someone possibly selling drugs.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 27 year old Charlotttetown man.   The accused has been charged with:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Controlled Drugs and Substances Act section 5(2)

The accused has been released from custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on routine patrol at 2:30 am Saturday morning, Police observed a vehicle strike a pedestrian that was crossing the road at the intersection of Kent St. and Prince St..  That vehicle did not stop and was pulled over a short distance away while another Officer tended to the injured pedestrian.

The driver, a 22 year old Charlottetown woman, displaying signs of impairment was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  She spent the night in jail and was released pending her appearance in Provincial Court.

The pedestrians was brought to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.
