Halloween Safety

Charlottetown Police Services is reminding the public to be extra careful while on the roads tomorrow evening as many “trick or treaters” will be out in full force.

Police are also reminding everyone that the City curfew is 8:00pm.

Here are a few safety tips for Halloween night.

Costume safety

  • Avoid costumes made of flammable materials and long trailing fabrics.
  • Chose properly fitting costumes and footwear.
  • Weapons or Accessories shouldn’t look too real and should be made of flexible material that cannot cause harm.
  • Ensure your mask doesn’t limit your vision or try using face paint instead of a mask.
  • Dress for the weather.

Stay visible

  • Try to trick-or-treat while it’s light out.
  • Attach reflective tape or glow sticks.
  • Wear bright and visible costumes.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick.
  • Travel in groups.

Trick-or-treating

  • Young Children should always be accompanied by an adult.
  • Discuss and plan a route and where to meet after.
  • Stay on sidewalks, cross at intersections, and look both ways before crossing.
  • Do not enter the home of a stranger.
  • Do not approach homes that are unlit or undecorated.
  • Carry a cell phone in case of emergencies, but don’t let it distract you!
  • Ensure all candy is inspected and tested by an adult.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a credit card being fraudulently used at a local business.

The complainant noticed that his credit card was missing when he received a text message on his phone saying that his card had just been used at a local Charlottetown business.

Police attended the business and located the persons that had just used the card.  As a result of the investigation, a 16 year old male has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, fraudulent use of a credit card and breach of probation. A second youth, a 17 year old female has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and fraudulent use of a credit card.

The credit card is believed to have been stolen from a vehicle.

The male remains in custody and will appear in court later today.  The female was released and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to an assault complaint that occurred at 2:00 am Saturday morning at a residence on St Peters Road.

Through the course of this investigation, it was determined that an assault did not occur however, a 24 year old Charlottetown male was arrested and charged with Breach of Probation and was brought before the Courts the next day and released with conditions.

And second person that had driven to the residence was observed to be displaying  signs of impairment by alcohol and was subsequently arrested. Police queried the license plate and discovered that the license plate had been reported stolen earlier in the day.  A 38 year old female was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.

Both individual will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating the theft of a vehicle that occurred sometime betweeen Friday 8:00 pm and Saturday morning 8:00 am. .

The vehicle is a grey 2017 Ford Edge, bearing PEI plate AATF.

It was stolen from Prince Street between Fitzroy and Euston Streets.

Charlottetown Police Services is investigation the theft of a custom mountain bike from the Richmond Street area at approximately 8:10 am yesterday morning (Oct 24).

Quest Carbon brand. 17″ with full suspension. Actual bike is pictured below.

Charlottetown Police Services have made an arrest in relation to several investigations of shoplifting that occurred over the last 36 hours.

Over a period of 36 hours three separate occurrences of shoplifting from the Queen Street and Oak Street Liquor Stores were reported to Police.  Last night at 10:00 pm a 26 year old Charlottetown male was arrested and charged with these thefts.  The accused has been charged with 3 counts of theft under $5000 dollars and 3 counts of failing to comply with an Undertaking given to a Justice of the Peace.

The accused will appear in Court for a remand hearing later today.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Buchanan Drive yesterday at 5:20 pm.

The suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop ensued.  The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested and returned to the Police Station to provide breath samples.

The driver provided samples in excess of three (3) times the legal limit and was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The driver, a 41 year old Ontario man will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services encourage the public to report any instances of impaired driving…Call 911.

The Charlottetown Police Services semi-annual Bike Auction is taking place on Saturday, November 2.

The Fall auction will take place at Charlottetown Police Services, located at 10 Kirkwood Drive, in the rear parking lot of the Station. Viewing will open at 8:30 a.m. with the live auction beginning at 9 a.m. Please note, there will be no parking available in the rear parking lot of the Police Station during the auction.

There are approximately 50 bicycles up for auction that had been abandoned, suspected stolen and recovered, but never claimed, or simply misplaced. Funds raised during the auction support children’s education through Charlottetown Police Services.

While on Patrol yesterday morning, Police observed a male on a bicycle who was arrestable for having cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet last week on October 15th.

When approached by Police, the male fled on his bicycle in the McGill Avenue area.  Police located the male a short time later on foot near Queen Street and a foot chase ensued and ended near University Ave where he was caught and arrested.

A 33 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with mischief under $5000 and breach of probation.  The accused appeared in Provincial Court later in the day and has been remanded in custody for a Show Cause hearing.

At approximately 1:20 am Saturday morning, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a disturbance on Pond Street.

Upon arrival, Police located a male with injuries to his face and determined that he had been assaulted.  The investigation has revealed that the two men involved had been in an verbal argument inside the residence which turned physical.

A 21 year old Charlottetown has been charged with Aggravated Assault and has been released with conditions to have no contact with the victim.
