Impaired Driving – Charges Laid

At 7:05 pm last night, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of an erratic driver on Riverside Drive. The suspect vehicle was located and Police conducted a traffic stop.  The Officer determined that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 61 year old Charlottetown man provided breath samples three times the legal limit and was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Woodward Drive at 9:00pm Saturday night.

The search resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of Cocaine and cash.

A 30 year old Ontario male and a 42 year old Charlottetown female have been charged with Possession of Drugs for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Both have been released and will appear in Provincial Court on March 13th 2020.

At 8:45 pm last night (Feb 3), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Buchanan Drive and North River Road.

Witnesses described an SUV travelling south on North River Road and struck two traffic signal poles that were in the centre of the intersection.

The collision was forceful enough to dislodge both poles and the vehicle sustained significant front end damage which caused the air bags to be deployed. The female driver of the SUV did exit the vehicle momentarily but then got back in and drove away south on North River Road.

Police wish to speak with anyone who may have seen the damaged vehicle drive away or that has any information on the driver or the current whereabouts of the vehicle. Please contact police at 902-629-4172, complete the tip section below or contact PEI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

At 4:25 pm, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male seen with a hand gun on Euston Street.

Police located the male walking on Walthen Drive and arrested him.  A replica handgun (bb gun) was located inside his clothing.

A 31 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with:

  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

The accused was released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are seeking public assistance in identifying the vehicle/driver that did not remain at the scene of an accident on Saturday.

The collision occurred at approximately 1:20 pm on Saturday (Feb 1).  The “hit” vehicle, a grey 2017 Nissan Rogue, was waiting to turn right from Buchanan Drive onto University Avenue.  As the “hit” vehicle turned onto University Ave into the outside lane, the “run” vehicle approached it from behind in the inside lane and side swiped it.  The “hit” vehicle proceeded to turn into the Staples parking lot expecting the “run” vehicle to follow but it did not and kept driving south on University Avenue.

There were no reported injuries.

The “run” vehicle is described as a dark coloured sedan.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to several possible impaired driver complaints over the weekend which has led to two (2) separate charges being laid.

At 3:00 am Saturday morning, Police responded to a complaint of a vehicle stuck in a snow bank on Belvedere Avenue.   Police located the vehicle and determined that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested at the scene.  A 22 year old Charlottetown man was later charged with impaired driving and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 1:55 am this morning, while on patrol on Kent Street, Police met a vehicle driving in the wrong direction.  A vehicle stop ensued and the driver showed signs of impairment by alcohol.  The 27 year old Ontario man was arrested and subsequently charged with impaired driving and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

UPDATE Jan 31 – The missing youth has been located.

Charlottetown Police Services are seeking public assistance in located a missing teen.

Evan MURRAY, 14 years old, was last seen on Monday January 27th at approximately 8:30 am in Sherwood.

He was last seen wearing tan pants, plaid shirt and a baseball hat.

  • 5’10
  • 140 lbs
  • Dark brown hair
  • Blue eyes

At approximately 2:00 pm, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of two males having escaped custody while at the Provincial Courthouse.

Patrol Officers, Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the RCMP K9 Units responded and conducted searches in the Charlottetown downtown core.

At approximately 2:30 pm, one of the escapees turned himself in.   At approximately 2:55 pm, the second escapee was located by Police at a residence on Upper Hillsborough Street.

Both men, 35 and 27 years old will remain in custody and are facing new charges of Escape Lawful Custody and Mischief Under $5000.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a two vehicle collision on Mount Edward Road.  The driver of one of the vehicles displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene but there were no reported injuries.

A 21 year old Tignish man has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Last evening, Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit located and arrested a 30 year old Charlottetown man that was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants.

In addition to the warrants, the accused is facing 19 new charges relating to property crimes and breaching conditions:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime – 1 count
  • Fraudulent use of a credit/debit card – 1 count
  • Resist arrest – 1 count
  • Theft under $5000 – 5 counts
  • Breach of Probation – 6 counts
  • Fail to comply with an Undertaking – 5 counts

The accused appeared in Provincial Court today and has been remanded in custody.
