Impaired Driving – Charges Laid

Charlottetown Police Services responded to several complaints of an erratic driver at 12:00 pm on Saturday.  The suspect vehicle was located in the Charlottetown Mall parking lot where Police found a male sitting in the drivers seat.   The driver displayed signs of being impaired by drugs and was arrested.  An officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided.  Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.  A 45 year old Moncton male was released from custody with a 90 day driving prohibition order and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

At 11:00 pm on Saturday, while on routine patrol, Police pulled over a vehicle that had been observed driving erratically on St Peters Road. The driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.  A 21 year old York male was charged with impaired driving.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 2:30 pm yesterday afternoon, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a disturbance between two men.  Police learned that the suspect had asked the complainant to use his cell phone, when he refused, the suspect slapped the phone out of his hand and fled the area.

Several Police units responded and searched for the suspect who was located a short time later on Grafton Street.

A 42 year old Charlottetown male was arrested and charged with Assault and failing to comply with an Undertaking. He was later released with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 4:35 yesterday afternoon, Charlottetown Police Services effected an arrest of a 33 year old Charlottetown male that had an outstanding warrant.   In addition to the warrant of arrest, the accused now faces charges of Mischief Under $5000, Resist Arrest and Failing to comply with an Undertaking.  The accused will appear in provincial court later today for a remand hearing.

During this arrest, Officers also arrested two other males that Police had been looking for:

  •  A 35 year old Charlottetown male was arrested for being unlawfully at large.
  • A 45 year old Charlottetown male was arrested for fraudulent use a stolen credit card.  This charge is in relation to the recent thefts from vehicles. The male was charged and released from custody with conditions. He will appear in court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are informing the public of a recent surge in thefts from vehicles.

Since Friday morning:

  • there have been 10 reported thefts from vehicles
  • 4 of which had their windows smashed to gain entry (purse/wallets in plain view stolen)
  • 7 of which had a purse, kit-bag or wallet stolen

The areas affected include:

  • West Royalty (Trainor St, Gates Dr)
  • Brighton (Century Terrace, St Claire Ave, Brighton Road, York Ln, Prince Charles Dr, Villa Ave)
  • Downtown (Longworth Ave)

Culprits are currently targeting purses and wallets, seeking cash and credit/debit cards that they can use the “tap” feature to make purchases.

As seen in these recent cases, simply locking your doors is not enough, make sure you do not leave anything of value inside your vehicle, Theft from vehicles are largely preventable by following a few simple tips:

  • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
  • Keep your vehicle doors locked

Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit have charged a Charlottetown man with Drug Trafficking.

At approximately 2:00 pm yesterday afternoon (Feb 18), the Street Crime Unit located the suspect walking along Euston Street, where he was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

An undisclosed amount of pills and cash were seized from the suspect at the time of arrest.

A 32 year old  Charlottetown male has been charged with Possession of Drugs for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court on March 26th 2020.

Charlottetown Police Services charged two individuals for Impaired Driving within two hours of each other on Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:10 am, while on routine patrol, Charlottetown Police Services noticed a vehicle driving on Great George Street without any lights on.  The vehicle was pulled over and the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.  A 20 year old Rustico man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

At approximately 3:50 am, while on routine patrol, Police conducted a traffic stop on Allen Street and determined that the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.   A 24 year old Charlottetown man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Both men will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 7:30 pm last night, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a single vehicle collision consisting of a vehicle in a snow bank on Kenlea Drive.  Responding Officers determined that the (uninjured) driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 34 year old Charlottetown man provided breath samples almost three times the legal limit and was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services are investigating a traffic incident that occurred on January 27 2020 at 3:30 pm.

The incident occurred in the Sherwood Medical Centre parking lot.

Police are seeking public assistance in identifying the male exiting the Dodge pick-up truck as seen in the video.
