Impaired Driving – Charges Laid

While on routine patrol at 00:45 am on Saturday morning (Dec 19), patrol Officers located a vehicle that was driving erratically on Kent Street.  The vehicle was pulled over on Kensington Road and the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 22 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 3:45 am this morning (Dec 19), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a report of a female that was missing in the Charlottetown area.

Officers were able to narrow the search area to the North River Road and Beach Grove Road intersection and deployed the Skyranger R70 drone at 4:00am.  The drone Pilot activated the thermal imaging camera which is used to detect heat sources.  At 4:15 am, the drone detected a heat source consistent with a human and officers on the ground were directed to her location.  The missing female was located laying in the snow in medical distress, she was responsive and transported to the QEH by Island EMS.

At 11:35 am yesterday morning (Dec 15), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of persons arguing at a residence on Euston Street.

The investigation into the complaint led Police to several crime scenes as the suspect fled from Police.    While fleeing from Police, the suspect ran through a private residence on Euston Street, stole a vehicle on the Brighton Road, he then collided with parked vehicles on Queen Elizabeth Drive and got stuck in a yard, he then ran from the area and was located and arrested in the back yard of a residence on Malahu Drive.

A 29 year old Charlottetown male was taken into custody and faces multiple charges:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous driving
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Obstruct Police
  • Uttering death threats (5 counts)
  • Uttering threats against property (3 counts)

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid.  The accused is currently in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 3:40 am on Monday morning, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male checking vehicles on Southdale Avenue.

Responding Officers located a male matching the description riding a bicycle on Murchison Lane.   The male was carrying a kitbag that contained various tools.    Police also discovered a nearby maintenance shed that had been broken into and tools missing.

A 31 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently arrested and charged with Break and Enter and Breach of Probation.  He has since been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court on December 21st.

At 6:00 pm on Saturday evening (Dec 12), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver that had struck a parked vehicle on Mariner Drive .  Police located the suspect vehicle and driver on Acadian Drive   Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 44 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Last night (Dec 14) at 11:15 pm, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a vehicle collision at the intersection of University Avenue and Belvedere Avenue.

A grey Audi was traveling northbound on University Avenue, as it drove through the intersection, the suspect vehicle which was traveling east on Belvedere Avenue went through the red light and struck the Audi on the front driver side. The suspect vehicle then continued to drive east on Belvedere Avenue and fled the scene.  The Audi sustained significant damage but luckily the driver was uninjured.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark, or black smaller vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic.   It would have significant front end damage and a broken window.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of domestic violence at 8:00 pm last night (Dec 14).  The assault occurred at a Charlottetown residence . During the incident a family dog was also assaulted by the accused.  The female victim nor the dog required any medical treatment.

A 50 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with one count of assault and one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.  The accused will be released from custody today with conditions to have no contact with the victim and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 6:30 pm last night (Dec 14), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male causing a disturbance on Weymouth Street.   Police located the male whom was intoxicated and aggressive with witnesses and Police.  Police arrested the male for being intoxicated in a public place.   During the arrest, the male spat on and kicked one of the Officers.

A 40 Charlottetown male has been charged with assaulting a Police Officer and mischief under $5000 dollars.  The accused has been released and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

On Saturday December 5,2020 Charlottetown Police Services partnered with other emergency service providers to help MADD PEI chapters get the message out about the dangers of Impaired Driving.

The Minister of Justice and Public safety and Attorney General, Bloyce Thompson, was on hand passing out literature with the Charlottetown Police Service, Charlottetown Fire Department, Highway Safety, RCMP, Island EMS and MADD  PEI representatives to motorist in an effort to raise awareness and draw attention to this important issue over the holiday season.
