Attempted Arson – Charges Laid

On June 14th, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male attempting to set a duplex residence on fire.   The suspect had left the scene prior to Police arrival.  The duplex, located on Spring Park Road, sustained minimal damage and did not require anyone to be evacuate, nor were there any injuries.  The complainant and suspect were known to each other.

The suspect was located and arrested Friday night (June 18th).

A 32 year old Charlottetown man has been charged with two counts of Arson and one count of Mischief under $5000 dollars.  He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court tomorrow.

At 1:10 pm today (June 18) a Charlottetown Police Officer was involved in a collision while on duty.  The collision happened at the intersection of Queen and Pond Streets.

A 56 year old Officer sustained serious but non life threatening injuries.   The driver of the other vehicle, a 16 year old, was not injured.

The Charlottetown Police collision reconstructionist team are on scene, the investigation into the cause is still under investigation.

At 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon (June 13), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Allen Street.

Police located and pulled the vehicle over on University Avenue a short time later.  The driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.   Other occupants in the vehicle included his young daughter.

A 41 year old  Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after he provided breath samples that were over double the legal limit.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 2:15 pm Friday (June 11), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male spray painting the basket ball court at the Joseph A. Ghiz Memorial Park on Kent Street.

A 29 year old Charlottetown man was located at the scene and subsequently charged with mischief under $5000 dollars.   The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services have charged two drivers in separate occurrences over the weekend.

At 4:15 pm Saturday afternoon, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on St Peters Road.  Officers located the vehicle and pulled it over.  The driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 49 year old  Winsloe male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, while investigating an unrelated complaint, Officers noticed a female in a nearby vehicle displaying signs of impairment.   Police spoke with the female driver and determined that she was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

A 23 year old  Stratford woman was subsequently charged with refusing to provide a breath sample upon demand .  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit have charged a  30 year old Charlottetown male with Break and Enter in relation to three separate occurrences.

On May 25th, Police responded to a business B&E at 173 Great George Street.  Cash and a quantity of liquor was stolen.

On May 26th, Police responded to a business B&E at 167 Great George Street.  A quantity of collector sports cards were stolen.

On June 2nd, Police responded to a residential B&E on Bayfield Street.  Nothing was stolen from the residence.

The male was arrested yesterday afternoon (June 2) and has been charged with three counts of of Break and Enter and three counts of breach of probation.  He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court next week.

At 8:30 pm last night (June 4th), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a possible impaired driver that was traveling on Malpeque Road.  Police were able to locate and pull the suspect vehicle over a short time later on Winsloe Road.

Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and arrested. A 52 year old Brackley man was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services have received a significant $1300 dollar donation from Mr. Earl Foster, representative from the Charlottetown Y’s Men Club.  The Healthy Me program was developed in 2016 by Charlottetown police and student services workers.  It is offered to Elementary School student and focuses on drug abuse and mental health.

Thursday morning, Charlottetown Police Services Street Crime Unit arrested a 36 year old Charlottetown male whom had three (3) outstanding arrest warrants.

During the arrest, Officers located a significant amount of cash and drugs.   The male had over $5000 dollars cash and $17,000 worth of cocaine, crystal meth and ritalin.

The accused now faces four (4) additional charges:

  • Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking (methylphenidate – ritalin)
  • Breach of probation

The accused has over fifteen charges pending and has been remanded in jail until his next court appearance on June 3rd.

Charlottetown Police is requesting public assistance in locating a lost ring that has significant sentimental value to the owner.

The ring is believed to have been lost near the Sherwood Business Centre on St Peter Road.   Actual pictures of the rings are below.
