CPS Participate in Annual Stars for Life BBQ

Charlottetown Polices Services Community Action Team participated in the annual Stars for Life BarBQ meet and greet on Wednesday July 21st.

Stars for Life Foundation was established in 2002.  Its mission is committed to creating quality of life for people with autism spectrum disorder.

On Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a Robbery that occurred in a business parking lot on University Avenue.

The victim had posted a cell phone for sale online and met two males in a business parking lot to finalize the sale.

The victim handed over the cell phone while one of the males passed him an envelope that was supposed to have contained cash payment for the phone.   The victim noticed the envelope only contained paper and no money.  When he went to take his phone back, one of the males assaulted him and both suspects fled the scene.  The victim sustained minor facial injuries.

With the assistance of video surveillance in the area, Police were able identify both male suspects.   At 4:00 pm, one male was located and arrested on Upper Prince Street.  The second suspect was located on Bayfield Street at 5:30 pm and arrested.

A 24 year old Charlottetown male has bee charged with Robbery and Breach of Probation.

The second suspect, a 30 year old Charlottetown male was also charged with Robbery.  A search of the male incident to arrest, revealed evidence from a previous business Break and Enter that occurred on June 30th.  As a result of the seizure, the accused faces an additional charge of Break and Enter.

Both males appeared in Provincial Court today and have been remanded in custody until their next appearance on Wednesday.

Charlottetown Police would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that when meeting strangers to sell used goods, always do so in well lit, public space.  Preferably in areas that have video surveillance.   The public is encouraged to use the designated  Safe Exchange Zone at the Charlottetown Police Headquarters located at 10 Kirkwood Drive.

At 2:50 am this morning (July 23), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a minor two vehicle collision on Euston Street.  No injuries were reported.

Responding Officers determined that the driver of one of the vehicles displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 24 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 1:35 am this morning (July 22), Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Capital Drive.

Police located the vehicle a short time later and pulled it over.  The driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 26 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services would like to inform the public of new Power-assisted Bicycle Legislation that came into effect on July 10, 2021.

The e-bike market has grown by leaps and bounds around the world and Prince Edward Island is no exception. The rising popularity of e-bikes, and the larger cargo e-bikes, has raised concerns about the safety of these vehicles and their close proximity with pedestrians and vulnerable road users.

On Thursday July 15th , Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit arrested a male following a targeted traffic stop on Herlihy Drive in Clyde River and seized a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine tablets (commonly known as speed), crystal methamphetamine, ritalin, lorazepam, a prohibited weapon (brass knuckles) and $1000 dollars in cash.

A 26 year old Cornwall male has been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and breach of probation.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to six assault complaints over the weekend with three of them resulting in charges.

File: 20211044373 – At 2:10 am on Sunday, Officers responded to a complaint of an injured female on Kent Street.  The female had been assaulted by another female and was treated and cleared by IEMS.   Police located and arrested the female suspect a short distance away, the 21 year old Charlottetown female was subsequently charged with a single count of Assault and was released with conditions.  She will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

File: 20211044786 – At 4:00 am on Sunday, Officers responded to a domestic violence complaint at a City residence.  The victim and the accused had been in a verbal argument that turned physical and also involved some damage to the residence when the accused used an axe to break down a door.  The victim did not require any medical attention.   The accused, a 37 year old Charlottetown man was arrested on scene and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5000 dollars and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.    The accused was remanded in custody and will appear in court today.

File: 20211049376 – At 3:45 am this morning (July 19th),  Officers responded to a domestic violence complaint at a City residence.   The victim sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention.  The accused, a 46 year old Charlottetown man was arrested and is being charged with a single count of Assault.  He will be released later today with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

On Wednesday July 14th , Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit arrested a male and female following a targeted traffic stop on Murchison Lane and seized a quantity of cocaine.  The males residence was subsequently searched and resulted with additional drugs and drug paraphernalia being seized.  Nine grams of cocaine, packaging supplies, two cell phones and over $14,000 cash was seized.

A 60 year old male and a 41 year old female, both from Charlottetown, have been charged with one count of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

They were released from custody with conditions and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on routine patrol at 9:30 pm last night (July 12), Charlottetown Police observed a vehicle driving erratically on University Avenue.

Police pulled the vehicle over and determined that the driver displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 49 year old  Grand Tracadie male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  The accused will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police is seeking public assistance in locating a missing person.

Susan DINGWELL,  60 years old.   5 feet 2 inches tall , approximately 180 pounds.  No clothing description.

She was last seen on June 28th (2021) on Pownal Street in Charlottetown. Her family has not heard from her since that time and are concerned for her safety.
