Two Separate Complaints Leads to Impaired Driving Charges

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver at a business on University Avenue at 5:28pm Monday afternoon. The complainant indicated that the male driver had slurred speech and was driving a blue Toyota Tacoma. The vehicle had left the premise before Police arrival.
At 5:36pm, a second complaint describing a similar vehicle was received and reported that it was involved in a collision on Beach Grove Road.
Police attended the collision on Beach Grove Road and determined that the driver of the Tacoma truck was impaired by alcohol. The 22 year old male Cornwall man was arrested and provided breath samples in excess of twice the legal limit.
The driver was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
No injuries were reported at the collision.

Charlottetown Police would like to notify the public that effective Monday, May 13th, 2019, we will be rolling out our new electronic tickets for parking infractions, which will replace the handwritten ones now used. Police Officers and Commissionaires will be equipped with devices that will print the new tickets on the scene of any vehicles found in violation. These new tickets will also go directly into an electronic database making them immediately available for payment via the following options:
Visit 10 Kirkwood Drive between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday-Friday to pay in person via Visa, MasterCard, cash or debit.
Pay by cheque via mail (cheque made out to City of Charlottetown)
Police have responded to several occurrences of theft from vehicles overnight Wednesday/Thursday.
Streets targeted were:
Greenfield Ave.
York Ln.
Hunter Ln.
Vail Dr.
Charlottetown Police has stepped up patrols in these areas.
Charlottetown Police Services are reminding the public to keep their vehicle doors locked and remove valuables from inside.

On Friday, May 3rd, 2019, the Charlottetown Police Services responded to Sherwood subdivision for the report of found human remains of an infant. The Charlottetown Major Crime Unit and Coroner responded to the address and confirmed there were human remains of an infant, which were located in an outbuilding on the property. Subsequently, Shannon Rayner a 40 year old Charlottetown woman was arrested for infanticide and has been remanded into custody. Shannon Rayner will appear in court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services located and arrested a 22 year old Rice Point man who had been wanted on PEI since January.
The accused had failed to appear in court in January for sentencing on several charges including a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
The accused was remanded following a show cause hearing on May 1st and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police issued two separate Highway Traffic Act charges for suspended driving and no insurance early this morning.
At approximately 1:45am this morning, while on routine patrol, Police performed a traffic stop and determined that the driver had a suspended license. A traffic ticket for driving while suspended license and no vehicle insurance was issued. The vehicle was also impounded.
At approximately 2:20am this morning, while on routine patrol, Police observed a vehicle with a known suspended driver driving the vehicle and a traffic stop ensued. As a result, the driver was issued traffic tickets for driving while suspended and no vehicle insurance. The vehicle was also impounded.
Driving while suspended fines carry a fine of $275.00 dollars, while driving with no insurance carries a fine of $675.00 dollars.

Charlottetown Police Service is pleased to announce that in cooperation with the New Comers Society, a foreign language translator list. A very dedicated group of people provided by the New Comers Society have offered their service to the Charlottetown Police to assist officers by phone in situations were language is a barrier to providing assistance. Police are able to access the translator in time of need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A translator list was compiled with security screening and background checks completed on all individuals involved in the service. At present, Charlottetown Police have the capability to provide language translation in Somali, Mandarin, and Arabic. Arabic translation can be provided by both a male or female translator depending on the situation. Charlottetown Police are committed to offering the best police service possible to new residents of our city who find themselves in a vulnerable situation not yet knowing the English language. Once again Charlottetown Police would like to thank the individuals who have come forward to provide their time and expertise to assist other members of our city.
