Two Separate Impaired Driving Charges in last 24 Hours

Charlottetown Police Services have laid 2 separate, unrelated impaired driving charges in the last 24 hours.

At 1:15 pm yesterday afternoon, Police responded to a complaint of an impaired driver travelling on St Peters Road.  The suspect vehicle was located  and pulled over by responding Officers.  The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.  A 52 year old Charlottetown man was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a  motor vehicle.  He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

At 10:00 pm last night, while on patrol near Riverside Drive, Police noticed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and proceeded to go through a red traffic signal light.  A traffic stop ensued and Police determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.    A 23 year old Clyde River man was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a  motor vehicle.  He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services have laid charges in connection with a Robbery that occurred Sunday night.

Police received a complaint that a male had attended a city residence, when one of the occupants demanded money from the male with threats that he had a gun.  The victim drove to a nearby ATM machine and withdrew money and gave it to the suspect and fled when given the opportunity.   The victim spoke with Police immediately after the incident.

The Charlottetown Street Crime Unit arrested a 38 year old Charlottetown male on Monday afternoon and a search warrant was executed at the suspects residence.  The male has been charged with:

  • Robbery with Firearm
  • Possession of a firearm when Prohibited
  • Breach of Probation

The suspect war remanded in custody and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on patrol at 4:30 am this morning, Charlottetown Police Services conducted a traffic stop on Euston Street.  Police determined that the driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 25 year old Mount Herbert male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police have laid drug trafficking charges after arresting a Charlottetown man on an outstanding Warrant.

While on patrol Sunday evening, a man known to Police as being wanted was seen in the passenger seat of a vehicle travelling on University Avenue. The Officer performed a vehicle stop a short distance later and arrested the male on the outstanding warrant. While performing a search of the male during the arrest, Police located a quantity of Cocaine.

The 49 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The outstanding arrest warrant for the male was for failing to appear in court on previous cocaine trafficking charges from January 2019.

The male appeared in court today and had been remanded in custody.

At 7:45 pm, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver that struck a curb near the round about on Capital Drive.  Police located the vehicle on Kirkwood Drive and performed a traffic stop.   The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by alcohol and was arrested.

A 30 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.  He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on patrol at 11:45 pm Saturday night, Charlottetown Police observed a male in the backyard of a residence.  Police pursued the male on foot and arrested him for trespassing at night.

A 30 year old Charlottetown male has been charged with Trespass at Night.  The accused appeared in Court on Sunday and was released with conditions pending his next court appearance.  He has been placed on a daily curfew condition which orders him to be at his residence between the hours of 9:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to eight (8) separate complaints related to possible impaired drivers over the weekend, 2 resulted with charges laid and 1 impaired by drug case with possible charges pending.

At 3:38 am Saturday morning, Police responded to a complaint of an erratic driver travelling south on North River Road.  The suspect vehicle was located on Belvedere Avenue and was pulled over by responding Officers.  The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment by drugs and was arrested.  A DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) Officer determined that the driver was indeed impaired by drugs and the driver was ordered to provide a blood sample.  A 67 year old Cornwall man has been issued a 90 day driving Prohibition Order and may be charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle pending blood test results.

At 1:30 pm Saturday afternoon, Police responded to a complaint of an impaired female attempting to get in her vehicle.  Police attended the location and determined that the female was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  A 65 year old Union Road female was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a  motor vehicle.  She will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

While on patrol at 11:45 pm Saturday night, Police observed a vehicle driving erratically and performed a traffic stop.  Police determined that the driver was impaired and was a Prohibited driver related to a previous impaired driving conviction in 2018.  A 43 year Nine Mile Creek male was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving while Prohibited.  He will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.

Charlottetown Police Services along with Highway Safety Officers conducted several check points in Charlottetown.

This enforcement initiative occurred on July 18th at two separate locations:

  • Water Street & Malpeque Road
  • Approximately 3500 vehicles passed through
  • 31 charges under the Highway Traffic Act were issued.

Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a male, believed to be impaired, getting into a vehicle and driving eastbound on Richmond Street.

The vehicle was located a short time later on Queen Street.  The responding Officer determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and was arrested.  The driver provided breath samples above the legal limit.

A 29 year old Charlottetown male was subsequently charged with Impaired Operation of a motor vehicle and will appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
